william webb ellis


World’s Greatest Players at rugby school from 1750-1859. They were not allowed to run with the ball and they were allowed hundreds of players. There were major injuries in the game because there were lots of people on the field tackling each other. In 1823 a pupil of the rugby school - William Webb Ellis ran with the ball, which broke the rules. They then decided to change the rules and wrote new ones in 1845.
